Tacoma Power selects muNet’s WebGate Technology
for Residential Gateway Project

Lexington, Massachusetts, July 12th, 2004- muNet® announced today that it has been awarded a contract for the supply of its WebGate® iRIS™ Mini IP Interface Technology to support Tacoma Power’s Residential Gateway Project. The multi-million dollar contract calls for the delivery of 10,000 WebGate IP Interfaces during a twelve-month term starting in August 2004. Tacoma Power plans subsequent deployment phases for an additional 17,000 meters, reaching a cumulative 27,000 Gateway Residential Meters installed by the end of the year 2006.

Tacoma Power, a division of Tacoma Public Utilities, serves more than 140,000 electric customers over a 180 square mile service territory in Washington State. Tacoma Power also operates and maintains Click! Network, a hybrid fiber optical and co-axial cable telecommunications network that supports transmission and distribution as well as providing cable video, broadband and data transport services to retail customers.

muNet's WebGate products are specifically designed to plug-and-play on broadband networks such as the Click! Network, and deliver attractive returns on investment by incorporating a wide range of competitively priced options targeted at enhancing operations for utilities and network operators.

The selected WebGate IP Interface configuration is integrated with the Sensus® iCon™ single phase meter and includes an integrated DOCSIS compliant cable modem, a voltage sensor, a 200 Amp power disconnect switch, a controlled Ethernet hub, a HomePlug compliant powerline bridge, and external dual coax switches.

In addition to traditional utility applications such as automated synchronized interval meter reading, voltage monitoring, and remote power disconnect, muNet's innovative technology enables Tacoma Power to implement advanced applications such as a pre-pay system for electrical bills with in- home status displays and the control of the cable TV signal delivery into the home.
